libspatialindex3 software package provides General framework for developing spatial indices, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install libspatialindex3
libspatialindex3 is installed in your system.
Make ensure the libspatialindex3 package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep libspatialindex3 *
You will get with libspatialindex3 package name, version, architecture and description in a table
